awareness.

“The goal of our company is to make people AWARE, employ those with Down syndrome and empower them.”

Awareness begins with knowledge. For those families affected by Down syndrome, individuals with Down syndrome, and the general community this knowledge is essential. The footprint symbol, which represents a medical marker for many of those who have Down syndrome is not only personal, but it is the first symbol that is specific to Down syndrome that is not an awareness ribbon.

Awareness brings focus. As people become more aware of Down syndrome, they can focus on what those who have Down syndrome can achieve, instead of what they cannot accomplish. There are more than 400,000 people living with Down syndrome in the United States; these individuals have a chromosomal condition that occurs in one out of every 733 births. The condition occurs when an individual has three, rather than two, copies of the 21st chromosome.

Awareness leads to acceptance. Those with Down syndrome can lead fulfilling lives that include active and gainful employment, empowerment and success. People with Down syndrome attend school and work; they participate in decisions that affect them and contribute to society in many wonderful ways. At Down Syndrome Footprint it is important to celebrate how people with Down syndrome are more alike, than different.

Awareness creates more opportunities. Researchers are making great strides as they identify the causes of Down syndrome. With additional awareness, there will be more opportunities to improve, correct or prevent many of the challenges associated with Down syndrome. Prospects for these individuals improve dramatically as awareness increases; quality educational programs, stimulating home environments, superb health care and positive support are all possibilities for the future.

Becoming Aware: How the Down Syndrome Footprint Foundation Raises Awareness with the Down Syndrome Footprint Symbol Awareness is at the heart of business at Down Syndrome Footprint. The company aims to raise awareness through public speaking events, informational videos, community walks and runs, attending and sponsoring conferences and providing support to Down syndrome groups. The organization is in the process of establishing non-profit organization where ALL of the proceeds will help the Down Syndrome Footprint Foundation to assist and provide support to families and individuals with Down syndrome.
